LANCASHIRE County Council's award-winning project 'Get It Loud in Libraries' has announced a spring and summer programme at Lancaster Library that will feature some of the hottest tipped bands in the UK.
First to play will be Dawn Kinnard on Saturday 26 April who recently wowed the Later with Jools Holland TV audience with her smoky voiced indie blues and soul. Her album “The Courtesy Fall” has just been released to mass critical acclaim. This show, which also features Chris Moyles' favourite Doug Walker, is followed by cult indie band iLiKETRAiNS on Monday 28 April, described admiringly by The Times as “Library rock”.
Monday 12 May sees new Virgin signings Royworld play next at the intimate venue. The band has just completed a whole UK tour of libraries under the Get It Loud in Libraries banner, closely followed by hot folk rock collective Noah and The Whale on Friday 23 May.
But it is June when the library really leaves its pop calling card with mega-hyped but super talented Florida alt-popsters Black Kids playing the library on 7 June and then excellent reggae pop singer songwriter Natty, again a Jools Holland performer, taking to the stage a week later on the 14 June.
Stewart Parsons, project founder and senior librarian at Lancashire County Council, is delighted with the bill and said:
” It’s wonderful for libraries to use their space in such a thrilling way. We are really looking forward to the bands and the new audiences they attract. Fans come from far and wide specifically to see their favourite bands in unique venues.”
The programme is designed to give people great times in libraries and change perceptions about the cultural potential and direction of libraries. It offers all-ages unparalleled access to some of the best new bands in the country before they hit the big time. It allows libraries to present the future through new music, and be at the vanguard of what is happening in pop culture terns for young people.
Bands to have already played the project include Bat For Lashes, Adele, The Wombats, The Long Blondes and The Thrills.
