BURNLEY Library, together with local company A Good Read, is running a new reading group to encourage more adults to take up reading in efforts to reduce stress and enhance wellbeing.
The library is inviting local people to join the monthly reading sessions, called Reading for Relaxation, which can provide a much needed break from hectic schedules, a chance to unwind, and make reading a more enjoyable and beneficial experience.
Mary Brown, senior librarian at Burnley Library for Lancashire County Council, explains:
"Taking time out to read a good book can have a therapeutic effect. It can provide escape from the day-to day, help relieve stress and s chance to relax. You don't have to be able to read to join; instead Janet Swan from A Good Read reads to the group, enabling you to completely switch off whilst focusing on the calming and gentle rhythm of the words. This group is an opportunity to meet new people, learn new things and offer time for reflection, all by making reading a part of your life."
The year 2008 has been chosen as the National Year of Reading to emphasise the importance of reading to everyone. This group is one of the many ways reading can have a positive impact on your life.
There are still places available to join the group. Anyone who is interested should contact Mary Brown on 01282 437115 or visit www.findmeagoodread.com
