Information day for parents of children with special needs

PARENTS and carers of children with special needs are invited to an information day in Burnley on Saturday 10 May.

The information day, which is free, is hosted by the East Lancashire Care and Share Group – a non-profit making group set up in 2002 to organise information events for families of children with special educational needs.

The event takes place from 11.00 to 3.00 at the St Peter’s Centre, Church Street, Burnley. Parking is free.

Statutory and voluntary organisations will be on hand to give advice about their services, and there will be fun activities for children and adults.

A crèche will be provided to give parents and carers the opportunity to look around the stalls and get the help and advice they need.

The information day follows a similar very successful event held at St Peter’s last year.

A mother from Burnley whose baby has Downs Syndrome said: “Last year’s Care and Share event gave me loads of information about caring for my baby. I met some very helpful people and I’m really glad I went.”

Another mum from Stoneyholme added: “I wish I’d known about some of these services earlier. There is a lot of help available if you know where to look.”

East Lancashire Share and Care Group welcomes new members. Anyone who would like to join the group or would like more information about the Burnley information day should contact: Dawn Helm 01772 532509; Amina Iqbal 01254 220569 or Gill Irvine 01772 534837.
